ATMs that allow you to exchange cash for Bitcoins coming to Canada this fall

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It will be the first of its kind and allow you to get your hands on a digital currency.

The very first Bitcoin-dispensing ATM will open to the public on Tuesday in a Downtown Vancouver coffee shop.

Mitchell Demeter, who operates the broker Bitcoiniacs which arranged for the machine, says it functions as you would expect.

“You select a dollar amount that you’d like to purchase, say a hundred dollars, you then deposit the hundred dollars and it will dispense a voucher for the Bitcoins or it will send the Bitcoins to your digital wallet.”

The machine also accepts the Bitcoins for cash.

Demeter says the digital currency community here, is growing.

“Vancouver has a fairly strong Bitcoin community. Back in January is when I got into it. There were about six or seven people at the first meet up that I went to. Now Vancouver hosts weekly meet ups.”

The digital currency functions as any other commodity with prices fluctuating.

Bitcoin got its start in 2008 and has traded at between $13 and $250 in the last year.

Demeter is planning to expand with ATMs in Toronto, Calgary and Ottawa by December.

It is estimated there are 11.5 million of them in circulation worldwide.

George Palaganas One of the ways I ask my eighth grade students to think about how to conduct themselves is to consider the question, "What if everyone did it?"
If everyone talked during the reading period, it would be too noisy to read.
If everyone failed to clean u
p their lunches, it would create a huge mess.
So when I asked them today, "Why vote?" at least one of their answers did not surprise. "Alone, your vote may not seem to make much of a difference. But if everyone took that view, it would allow just one or two people to make the decision."
Since 2000, at least three races for the Oregon House have been decided by fewer than 100 votes. In 2004, the Washington Governor's race was decided by just 129 votes statewide. Many of this year's contests - including our Governor's race - are shaping up to be just as close.
In the final days of this campaign, I have committed to raising an additional $2,000 to help get out the vote. These funds will support the folks who are going door-to-door throughout the state, reminding people to turn in their ballots by 8pm on Tuesday, November 2.
If you have not contributed $20, $50, or $100 already, I hope that you will join the 962 individual donors who have already donated my 1000 Twenties campaign. The funds I am raising now will help get out the vote.
If you have already made a $20 donation, is there another member of your household who hasn't?
Don't forget Oregon's $50 annual tax credit ($100 per couple) for political contributions.
In a year that has seen the Supreme Court dismantle spending limits, special interest groups break records for political expenditures, and Chris Dudley raise a jaw-dropping $9.1 million for his Governor's race, it is reasonable to wonder how to take back the system for the public interest.
Well, we may not be able to get rid of special interest money, but we can dilute it. We can create a funding source that isn't tainted by the perception of special access. We can reward candidates who put small-dollar donors at the head of the line.
What if everyone made a $20 investment in democracy?

Yours sincerely,

Ben Cannon
